'Avatar: The Last Airbender 2' is a planned sequel to M. Night Shyamalan's live-action adaptation released in 2010. The director revealed his plans to work on another thriller film before pursuing the sequel based on the popular animated television series created by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Nickelodeon recently released the much-awaited DVD collection featuring 61 full episodes of the tv series.

Shyamalan admitted that he would work on the fantasy-adventure follow-up after a thriller film of his own during an interview with the Metro. He said, "It takes so long to make those CGI movies. It's hard because it takes two/three years and I don't get to make two of my own movies so there's always a struggle of choosing someone else's material over my own." It was reported that Shyamalan may be referring to his upcoming November project that may possibly star Joaquin Phoenix.

The 45-year old filmmaker is best known for his previous supernatural films such as 'The Village', 'Signs', 'Lady In The Water', 'Unbreakable' and the 1999 cult hit 'The Sixth Sense'. He was criticized for his work on 'The Last Airbender', with critics citing inconsistencies with the original series as well as poor actor performance. Despite the negative reviews, his film earned $319 million and opened in the second top spot right behind 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse'.

According to Hypable, the planned sequel may follow the events in the second season of the animated television series since the first film focused on its first season. It remains unknown whether stars Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Dev Patel, Jackson Rathbone and Shaun Toub would return to reprise their roles. Fans condemned the alleged "whitewashing" of the characters and there had been some talk about possible recasting.

On the upside, the newly released DVD box set containing a collection of 61 full episodes was met with resounding praise. According to IGN, Nickelodeon's original series released on October 6 came in a box of 16 discs with packaging that featured artwork drawn by Konietzko himself. The set is divided into three standard DVD cases for each season namely Book One: Water, Book Two: Earth, and Book Three: Fire.

Konietzko has ventured out to a separate project called 'Threadworlds' while his co-creator DiMartino is also working on another project called 'Geniuses'. However, the pair revealed that their sequel series 'The Legend of Korra' will also be adapted into a series of graphic novels.
