'Divergent: Allegiant' author Veronica Roth discusses the deleted scene from her book involving Tris and Peter. She also defended her reason for the controversial death that marked the conclusion of her popular trilogy.
An article from Entertainment Weekly revealed details of the deleted scene from Roth's third novel 'Allegiant'. The author herself admitted through e-mail correspondence that cutting the scene that involved Tris and Peter was a difficult decision. She said, "I originally had an entire section where Tris, Tobias, and the others reunite with the rest of Dauntless-a kind of quiet rebellion in which they assert their choice to stay a faction no matter what the factionless say. And this moment that Tris has with Peter was a part of it."
She added that the deleted scene highlighted Tris' newfound strength as well as Peter's vulnerability. Despite Roth's wish to keep it, it was cut because of the need to speed the plot up and avoid weighing it down with supplementary details. Fortunately, the excerpt called 'Strike First, Strike Hard' is included in the 'Allegiant Collector's Edition' released on October 6.
The 27-year old writer also defended the intense conclusion to her trilogy that ended in the controversial death of one particular major character. According to Movie News Guide, she said that the unfortunate twist was extremely necessary to fulfill the series' storyline. Previous reports also revealed that she had no intention of changing the ending despite the strong public reaction against it.
It is not to say that the upcoming two-part installment will not present certain changes. According to Seventeen, Roth admitted through her Tumblr account that there will be some changes done in the films but it may be too early to know at this point. She said that she couldn't help but feel nervous at the prospect of these modifications and hoped her characters would remain "intact".
'Divergent: Allegiant' will feature the return of several actors including Shailene Woodley as Tris, Theo James as Tobias "Four" Eaton, Naomi Watts as Evelyn Johnson-Eaton, Octavia Spencer as Johanna Reyes, Miles Teller as Peter, Ansel Egort as Caleb Prior and Maggie Q as Tori Wu. Jeff Daniels will join the cast as the latest antagonist David. The first part 'Allegiant' is scheduled for release on March 18, 2016 while the second part 'Ascendant' will follow on March 24, 2017.
