'Tron 3' news has been a wave of ups and downs. From the confirmation of its production date, to suddenly being canceled, 'Tron 3' production remains unclear. However, Garrett Hedlund, who starred in the previous Tron movie Tron: Legacy, stated that he wasn't told that 'Tron 3' is dead, bringing back the talk of the movie pushing through.
According to Comic Book, Hedlund has not heard from the production studio that 'Tron 3' is "totally dead." While this 'Tron 3' news sparked hope for fans, Hedlund clarified that the possibility, let alone a date, is uncertain. Citing the 30-year gap between Tron and Tron: Legacy, the actor laughed and said that "maybe it'll be like Legacy was to the first Tron."
Screen Crush reported that Hedlund possibly hinted as to why the project was suddenly pulled out. Disney needed the right story for the sequel, which should be "concrete and exciting." Apparently, the written script is not enough for Disney to go forward with it and 'Tron 3' (reportedly titled Tron: Ascension) may not have been as far along in development as fans would have liked it to be.
According to Cinema Blend, Hedlund is clearly interested with the continuation of the franchise. With new characters working around a whole new idea, the actor believes that it will blow Tron: Legacy out of the water. Hedlund implied that aside from him, the Olivia Wilde and Jeff Bridges are very willing to be on board for 'Tron 3'.
While Hedlund discussed the possibility of a 'Tron 3' still pushing through, fans should bear in mind that it is still indefinitely shelved. Currently not possible for a release in the near future, it may take years and even decades before 'Tron 3' sees the light of day. Until then, any 'Tron 3' news will surely be welcomed by fans and followers of the franchise.
