After the widely anticipated launch of Google's new Nexus devices and the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, Xiaomi is set to take the smartphone world by storm with the expected Mi 5 unveiling.

The Chinese smartphone giant has been sending out invites for an October 19 event. Fans are expecting that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be finally announced.

During the past several years, the smartphone maker from China has been launching models that can rival veterans in the market such as Apple, Samsung and LG. What made them popular is their high-end phones with low prices.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes after a year the flagship predecessor Mi 4 was launched. The usual 12-month cycle is already up as the previous phone was launched in July last year, according to NDTV.

There have been conflicting reports regarding the specs of the new rumored flagship phone. Initially, it was said that the new phone will feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC.

However, Qualcomm hasn't announced the release date of the new chip yet. The Xiaomi Mi 5 will most likely be powered by the Snapdragon 810 v2.1 chipset, which is also used by the new OnePlus 2 smartphone.

Unfortunately, the phone is expected to run the older Android 5.0 Lollipop version with their MIUI ROM, according to International Business Times. Google has already launched Android M for their new devices including the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is also expected to sport a 5.2-inch QHD display for a more enjoyable viewing experience. It is also rumored to be bundled with a generous 4GB of RAM.

With all the high-end specs, the phone should be expected to have a steep price tag. However, it could only cost around $320, according to Phone Arena.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 definitely had fans excited. However, they will still need to wait if the company will actually announce the product on the day of the event.
