‘The Dark Tower’ Movie Adaptation: Book series’ rights fully acquired; Stephen King to finish another series before film release

By

'The Dark Tower' movie adaptation is a little more than a year from being released, yet no tangible progress has been reported as of late. In contrast to 'The Dark Tower' movie's seemingly sluggish development, author Stephen King has been very busy lately. The renowned writer recently gave Scribner the rights for most of his works, including 'The Dark Tower' series. He is also set to finish a trilogy by 2016, before 'The Dark Tower' movie adaptation comes out.

According to the Los Angeles Times, American publisher Scribner has acquired the rights to majority of King's works, including the first 4 books of 'The Dark Tower' series. The first book, 'The Gunslinger' is believed to be where 'The Dark Tower' movie adaptation will be based on. Announced last Monday, the transfer of rights covers every format the books can be published.

'The Dark Tower' author has been with Scribner since 1998. Delighted with the publishing company, King said, "Good publishing and good relationships equals happy writers and long shelf life." He added that he trusts Scribner, together with people from Pocket, Simon & Schuster Audio, and the rest of the company for they value his work, and has always endeavored to expand their audience reach.

On the other hand, King's Hodges trilogy is not part of the Scribner acquisition. According to The Guardian UK, Hodder & Stoughton, publisher of the first two books (Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers), will also publish the 3rd and final installment. 'End of Watch' concludes the story of retired detective Bill Hodges and murderer Brady Hartsfield. The novel will be out 7 June 2016, which is seven months before the supposed release of 'The Dark Tower' movie adaptation.

Recently, King was awarded the National Medal of Arts for his contribution in American literature, as mentioned in an earlier report. 'The Dark Tower' creator has been doing interviews then, but no mention of 'The Dark Tower' movie adaptation has been made. The film remains unfilmed to this date, and only Nikolaj Arcel's directorial involvement is confirmed.

There has been no report of Scribner's ownership rights over the first four books of 'The Dark Tower' series affecting 'The Dark Tower' movie adaptation in any way. Many fans and moviegoers look forward to reading King's next novel while waiting for the January 2017 release of the film. News and updates on 'The Dark Tower' movie adaptation status are expected before the year ends.
