"Mad Max: Fury Road" was a surprise hit when it was released in May this year. Its absence in the big screen for a long time did not hinder its success. However, fans of Charlize Theron's character Furiosa might be disappointed in this news, as director George Miller reveals that the actress nor the character will no longer sign on the sequel "Mad Max: The Wasteland."
In an interview, "Snow White and the Huntsman" actress made a statement about her character Furiosas's possible absence in the Mad Max sequel. She said that they had a hard time making the movie and apprehending its circumstance being released to the audience is scary. She mentioned that she is juggling her life and her 3 year old son's. The 40 year old star also stated that she is open for possibilities and she is positive with the project, however she is realistic and she knows that the movie was made on the basis of all the right reasons why Miller wanted to make the movie. "Unless that happens again, I wouldn't trust the process," she added.
In a different interview, Miller has given a hint on the fate of Furiosa. The director was asked if Charlize Theron will be back in the next Mad Max film. Miller seemingly hesitant answered: "I'm not sure, is the answer. She's not in the Mad Max story. But one of the stories, there's an interaction between the two. But I can't really say more than that, because it's still in progress."
Miller is reportedly making two more Mad Max films. He had also revealed during the Comic-Con 2014 that he already had two scripts; one titled "Mad Max: The Wasteland," the other one rumored to be called "Mad Max: Furiosa." The latter presumably would feature the backstory on Theron's character, but it now sounds a little doubtful.
"Mad Max: Fury Road" has gained $374 million in revenue in the worldwide box office with a base budget of $155 million. Warner Bros. has not yet announced the release date of "Mad Max 5: The Wasteland." Are you disappointed with the possibility of not seeing Theron's Furiosa in the next Mad Max movies?
