Jason Bourne a.k.a. David Webb is back for another round of action in the currently untitled Bourne 5, and filming is currently underway for the action flick. Moreover, Matt Damon who is set to reprise his role as Jason Bourne recently revealed new details about the plot.
As reported by /Film, Damon recently took a time off from filming to promote his recent film with director Ridley Scott, The Martian. During the promotions, Damon was able to reveal a couple of new details about the upcoming film's plot.
According to Damon, Jason Bourne's memory will be back in the film, and it will feature Bourne 12 years after the events of Bourne Ultimatum. "[Bourne] has his memory back, but that doesn't mean he knows everything. It's 12 years since Jason Bourne has been on the grid. So we have to answer the questions, Where's he been? What's he doing? What gets him going again? So once we solved all that, then we had a movie", Damon said.
Moreover, Damon also previously revealed that the film will be set in a post-Snowden world where the issue of spying, civil liberties and democracy come into play. "..it's Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world. It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.", Damon revealed.
As reported by Cinemablend, by the time Bourne 5 is released in theaters, it will have been 9 years since the previous film. With Damon's statement about the film being set 12 years after the events of the previous instalment, it is now widely speculated that the forthcoming film could be set some time in the future.
Jason Bourne will be back in the franchise after the Bourne Ultimatum in 2007. As reported by Over Mental, Bourne was last seen in the Bourne Ultimatum, where he exposed the Operation Blackbriar which was the successor of Operation Treadstone.
Bourne 5 is set to be directed by Paul Greengrass who also wrote the film with Damon, Robert Ludlum, and Christopher Rouse. Aside from Damon, the film will also see the return of Julia Stiles as Nicky Parsons, and new cast members Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Ato Essandoh, and Vincent Cassel.
