An adventure to King Kong's home is set to begin in the upcoming Kong: Skull Island. Casting is currently underway for the film and actors Shea Whigham, John Ortiz, and Eugene Cordero were recently added in the film's roster of cast.
As reported by We Got This Covered, Shea Whigham and John Ortiz were recently added earlier this month to the film's cast although details about the characters they are set to portray are currently undisclosed.
Also, according to Deadline, Eugene Cordero is at present the latest addition to the cast. Like Whigham and Ortiz, no reports have been revealed regarding his character. Cordero is set to play alongside Brie Larson, Samuel Jackson, John Goodman, John C. Reilly, Tom Hiddleston, and Toby Kebbell among many others.
Hiddleston is set to play the lead role in the film, and as reported by Franchise Herald, the actor has been open about preparing for the role. "I've been digging around in some dark material, to be honest", Hiddleston said. "There's something very heroic about my character in Skull Island. He's an adventurer, he's an explorer. I mean, it's a King Kong film. There we go."
He also added that there is something about the film's locations, time period, and cultural context that highlights a different perspective on the myth. The actor also expressed his excitement to make the film, and for it to be released.
As stated in the film's synopsis, it will tell the story of King Kong, and his origins as it will "fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island."
Production for Kong: Skull Island is set to begin this fall and will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and screenplay by Max Borenstein, Derek Connolly, John Gatins, and Dan Gilroy. It is set to hit theaters on March 10, 2017.
