‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ News: Mark Hamill to voice Joker; Classic graphic novel turned into R-rated cinematic adaptation for 2016?

'Batman: The Killing Joke' will feature Mark Hamill as the voice of Joker. The classic graphic novel may be turned into the first ever R-rated Batman adaptation. It is scheduled to be released on 2016.

An article by Tech Times suggested of the possibility of the Warner Bros. - DC Entertainment collaboration to gain an R-rating. James Tucker, who produced 'Batman: Bad Blood', was reported to have announced at a panel at the New York Comic Con that the planned adaptation may take the R-rated route. Tucker later took to Twitter to clarify that he will not be directing the project and that its rating will not be finalized just yet.

Should the plan push through, the film will become the first ever 'Batman' original movie to feature an R-rating. It was one of the three announced DC Universe Original Movies that will be released direct to video some time in 2016. The other two include 'Batman: Bad Blood' and 'Justice League vs. Titans'.

It's not surprising that the iconic one-shot graphic novel first published in 1988 will be aiming for an R-rating for its planned animated full feature adaptation. According to Fusion, the comic book created by writer Alan Moore and artist Brian Bolland takes on a more gruesome version of Joker's origins.

In the beginning, an aspiring comedian who later morphs into the supervillain Joker begins by turning to a life of crime to support himself and his pregnant wife. Batman eventually captures him but he accidentally falls into a vat of toxic chemicals that transforms him into a mentally disturbed psychopath. In an unfortunate turn of events, the story leads Joker to torment and permanently maim Police Commissioner Jim Gordon's daughter, Barbara a.k.a. Batgirl.

According to Collider, Mark Hamill will return to lend his voice to Joker with director Sam Liu to helm the upcoming movie adaptation. Hamill is best known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in George Lucas' epic science-fiction series 'Star Wars'. He also ventured out into voice acting and has voiced Joker in several Batman animated series throughout his career.

'Batman: The Killing Joke' provides Joker's origin story as a tragic character. It features Joker's attempts to drive Jim Gordon insane with Batman's desperate attempts to detain him. It also laid the groundwork for Barbara Gordon's transformation from Batgirl into the Oracle.
