Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Half Shell is underway and will include new characters who are popular in the comics. Moreover, the origins of the turtles and the universe they live could also be explored in the upcoming film.
New photos have made their rounds online showing new characters for the sequel of the 2014 surprise hit. As reported by Movie News Guide, some of the most iconic characters from the comics such as Casey Jones, Bebop, and Rocksteady are set to appear in the film.
Jones will be played by 'Arrow' actor Stephen Amell and the photo suggest that his portrayal is likely to stay true to that of in the comics as he can be seen wearing hockey mask, and carrying a hockey stick on set. The dim-wit villains Bebop and Rocksteady will be portrayed Gary Williams and Stephen Farrelly, respectively. Although, it has not been confirmed whether they will be transformed into mutated warthog and rhino as well like in the comics.
Also, as cited in previous report, heavy speculations have also revolved around the film suggesting that the alien megalomaniac villain General Krang could be the villain in the sequel. While it has not been confirmed yet, rumors suggest that General Krang could appear in the film through a CGI form. In the comics, General Krang was a commanding warlord in Dimension X who is exiled to Earth where he joins forces with the Shredder.
Details about the sequel's plot are currently scarce, however, as reported by Master Herald, William Fichtner who plays the villain Dr. Eric Sacks in the film hinted that it would be a good idea for the sequel to delve more into the origins of the turtles, past storylines, and their universe. Furthermore, Fichtner added that he believes that the writers did not have difficulty in writing interesting things for the sequel.
Filming for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Half Shell has recently finished and it is currently in post-production. It is directed by Dave Green and screenplay by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. It is expected to hit theaters on June 3, 2016.
