Jenko and Schmidt are returning to the big screen for another round of hilarity and action with 23 Jump Street. Phil Lord and Chris Miller said they are unlikely to direct as rumors about 'Men in Black' cross over continues.
Sony is pushing for a third film in the franchise lead by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill about two undercover cops who try to save the day in the upcoming film. However, according to a report JoBlo, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller revealed that they might not return to helm the film.
"We are hard at work on 23 Jump Street, which I think we will probably just produce from a time standpoint. But we've been working really hard. We've got a really good first draft of a script in and we're really excited about it" Miller previously said.
Although it may be a little unfortunate, it is believed that Lord and Miller's busy schedules and piling projects could be the reason why they had to leave the director's chair for the film. Furthermore, while the wait for the new director continues, Movie Pilot listed Adam McKay, Elizabeth Banks, and Joe Swanberg as directors who would be fitting to helm the film.
Details about the upcoming film's plot are presently scarce, although it was cited in previous article that heavy speculations about a potential crossover with the Men in Black Universe are currently surrounding the film. Lord and Miller also said previously that they are considering variety of ideas for the sequel, including several creatures from other worlds, "We're really focusing on what's a great story for Schmidt and Jenko and how to tell the next chapter in their lives. And perhaps use creatures from another world at the same time."
Aside from Tatum and Hill, Adrien Ryans is also on board for 23 Jump Street. It is written by Rodney Rothman. No director and release dates have been announced for the film yet but more details are to be revealed when production takes progress.
