'Warcraft' is a live-action adaptation of the video game series of the same name. Director Duncan Jones took to Twitter to defend his "problem movie". Although it's release date has been delayed twice, it is confirmed for release on June 2016.
According to GameSpot, an ongoing clash between distributor Universal Pictures and producer Legendary Pictures has given rise to 'Warcraft' having the reputation of a "problem movie". It was reported that Universal gave the impression that it doesn't believe the upcoming fantasy film would be a box office hit.
Another article by Inverse suggested that it may be impractical for Universal to back out of the project at this point since the film has already wrapped principal photography and it had already shelled out more than $100 million in production budget.
Despite these supposed issues, Jones took to his personal Twitter account to express his enthusiasm over the project. He posted a reply to a comment that said perhaps his film would prove every disbeliever wrong. Jones replied, "@CLAWX I wouldn't worry about that. Universal moved us to the same date as Jurassic World, so we must have done something right!"
Universal's concerns may stem from the fact that some of Legendary's properties haven't made back the money spent in production. It was reported that Blizzard Entertainment partnered with Legendary to bring their characters to the big-screen. Although 'World of Warcraft' itself has millions of fans in the gaming community, the numbers may not be enough for the success of its cinematic release.
The upcoming epic fantasy film is based on the Warcraft game series and is set in the world of Azeroth. According to io9.com, it will take inspiration from the first ever game in the franchise called 'Orcs and Humans'. It will follow the origin story of the Orcs who came from a planet known as Draenor.
The film's protagonists and antagonists basically fall into two categories: Humans of the Alliance and Orcs of the Horde. Travis Fimmel, Dominic Cooper and Paula Patton make up some of the Alliance as Anduin Lothar, King Llane and Garona Halforcen respectively. Toby Kebbel, Rob Kazinsky and Clancy Brown are Durotan, Orgrim and Blackhand of the Horde.
'Warcraft' is an epic war fantasy film scheduled for release in cinemas on June 10, 2016. It was initially scheduled for December 18, 2015 then moved to March 2016 before landing its final date.
