'Sherlock' Season 4 Updates: Production and premiere dates confirmed; Special episode to air soon

By

Folks from BBC's beloved "Sherlock" finally revealed the filming and premiere dates for its season 4 which unfortunately, is not as sooner as the fans wanted it to be. An exciting surprise episode, however, is set to air to help fill in the long wait.

Den of Geek reports that the shooting will commence by spring next year, adding that the episodes are due for a full release by the first of quarter of 2017.

Despite the long hiatus, showrunner Steven Moffat has assured that the upcoming season will really be worth waiting for as it strays from the usual tone of the show. "It's dark in some ways - obviously it's great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that - but there's a sense of things coming back to bite you," Moffat tells Digital Spy.

To appease eager and thirsty "Sherlock" fans, BBC confirmed that they will be airing a special episode. According to iDigital Times, this is intended to be an entirely separate story and will not in any way affect the plot of the previous and upcoming seasons.

A special trailer was also released last week to give fans a taste of what to expect in the said special. From the looks of it, this episode will have the dynamic duo getting entangled on a web of mysteries but this time around, they will be based in vintage, 19th century London.

This episode clearly tips its hat off to the stories of the books from where it was based from - something that Moffat wanted to pull off all along as he wanted to see the characters in the book's original environment. It even includes a scene where Holmes is seen wearing his iconic deerstalker hat!

Catch the special "Sherlock" episode that is expected to be aired during the Christmas season on BBC.
