'Underworld: Next Generation' has cast Lara Pulver of 'Sherlock' fame to star alongside Kate Beckinsale and Theo James. Her role has yet been announced. Production is set to officially begin this October in Prague.
According to Deadline, the actress famed for her role as Irene Adler on the popular television series 'Sherlock' will be joining the upcoming sequel for the long-running horror series centered on the supernatural war between vampires and lycans. She is joins fellow Englishman Bradley James in a yet-confirmed role.
Pulver has received acclaim for her various appearances on stage, television series as well as cinematic releases including the West End production of 'Parade' and BBC's 'Robin Hood'. She also starred in HBO's 'True Blood', BBC's 'Spooks', and Fox's 'Da Vinci's Demons'.
Returning cast members include Kate Beckinsale, who will reprise her role as the vampire Selene, and Theo James, who plays Selene's vampire ally David. Empire Online reported that the fifth film's plot may center on Selene's hunt for her missing hybrid lover Michael Corvin. It may also follow through with their daughter Eve's story, who was first introduced in the preceding film.
Audiences were first introduced to Selene in 2003's release of 'Underworld'. She was a vampire Death Dealer hell bent on destroying the lycans who she believed killed off her entire family. Along the way, she captures the human Michael who has been the target of lycan experimentation and falls in love with him. Although Beckinsale didn't return to reprise her role as Selene in 2009's 'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans', she made a comeback for 2012's 'Underworld: Awakening'.
According to ComicBook.com, Anna Foerster has jumped aboard to helm the feature film and will begin production this October in Prague. Cory Goodman has been tasked to pen the script together with Kevin Grevioux, Danny McBride and Len Wiseman.
'Underworld: Next Generation' is the fifth installment in the popular action-horror franchise scheduled to be released on October 21, 2016. Its predecessor, 'Underworld: Awakening', was released in 2012 and earned $160 million against a $70 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. Although the movie received generally negative reviews, it maintained relative success among fans worldwide.
