Wolverine 3 is currently in the works, and Hugh Jackman recently revealed new details about the film's script. While official plot details remain to be under wraps, speculations remain that the film could be be based on 'Old Man Logan' story arc, as per Jackman's hint during the previous comic con.
After playing the character for more than a decade, the upcoming film will be Jackman's final time to play as Wolverine and according to the actor, he wants to make it memorable. As reported by Comic Book Movie, he is currently working on the script with James Mangold which according to the actor they are "at about page 60 right now".
Jackman also further gave new updates about the film, and revealed that he wants to have everything laid out before beginning on any other part of the production. "I don't have a start date because we're not going to have start dates until we have that script perfect. ... It matters too much to me. I care too much about the character, about the audience, and when you say it's going to be your last one, I just want to leave everything on the table. Absolutely everything", Jackman said.
According to Cinemablend, the film is currently slated to begin filming next year, however, if Jackman and the film's creative team take longer in perfecting the script, the film might eventually be pushed back to summer 2017.
Plot details for the film are currently scarce although according to Screen Rant, speculations suggest that it could be linked to the comic book story arc of 'Old Man Logan' where X-Men's enemies collaborated and killed the heroes in the universe. When the time came they had to deal with the X-Men, they passed on the job to Wolverine who, with the help of the illusions created by Mysterios, killed his allies. However, it has not been confirmed yet, and remain to be fan-based as of now.
Aside from Jackman, Patrick Stewart will also appear in Wolverine 3 to reprise his role as Charles Xavier. The film is set to be directed by James Mangold. It is currently slated to hit theaters on March 03, 2017.
