Despite the box office flop of the first film, 20th Century Fox is still moving ahead with Fantastic Four 2. Meanwhile, Simon Kinberg reacted to Josh Trank's tweet about his version being better than what was released by the studio, while Fox also recently slammed rumors about the rights of Fantastic Four returning to Marvel.
As reported by Cinemablend, Fox is still pushing through with a sequel for the recent Fantastic Four reboot. However, it was also reported that the next director will have a lot of work to do as he will continue the story of the world and the characters that was defined in the first film by director Josh Trank.
Simon Kinberg also recently expressed his disappointment with the failure of the first film and revealed his side on Trank's statement about the difference between the his' and the studio's version of the film, and its effect on the box office.
"Honestly, I have no idea. I've had other movies not work before. For whatever reason, that movie not working became very public - and that was hard because you put a lot of time and effort and love into everything you do, and I really love a lot of people on that film and felt really close to the actors. Those are the guys whose faces are on the poster and are the most exposed. I hope we get to make more movies with them. But it was disappointing", Kinberg said, according to Screen Rant.
Moreover, contrary to previous speculations, Fox also recently cleared the issue that the rights to Fantastic Four would be given back to Marvel in exchange of the rights of two X-Men tv series Hellfire and Legion. According to Den of Geek, the studio clarified that the rumors are "completely untrue" thus confirming that the franchise is still under Fox.
No director has been attached to the forthcoming Fantastic Four 2 yet, but cast from the previous film, Kate Mara, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell are expected to return. The first film performed lesser in the box office earning only $166 million worldwide from its $120 million budget according to Box Office Mojo. More details are expected to be revealed when production for the film progress.
