Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Release Candidate Build For PC Now Available For Download

PC users will be glad to know that the Android platform can be run on their computers. Under a project named Android-x86, the developers have been able to release a build for the PC.

Dubbed as the Android 5.1 Lollipop Release Candidate build, the version is now available for download for interested users. As the name suggests, the build is based on the recent Android Lollipop build from Google.

Several bugs and glitches are already patched in the new version. Laptop users can try them for better compatibility since the new update, according to Tech Times.

The developers said that have added more codes for the x86 devices and it should run "smoothly." Tablets can also take advantage of the new build.

There is another Android 5.1.1 Lollipop build for the PC. Dubbed as the AndEx Build 1510101, the verson is powered by the Linux kernel 4.0.8.

Android-x86 creator Arne Exton told Softpedia: "Most important is that Build 151010 can run and be installed in VirtualBox and VMware. Also that OpenGL ES hardware acceleration for Intel, AMD Radeon and Nvidia (Nouveau) chipsets is enabled. I've also added the Twitter and Viber app."

This means that PCs and tablets with dedicated GPUs will be able to take advantage of the OpenGL ES feature for smoother animations and rendering of 3D apps. The new AndEX Lollipop Live CD also includes additional drivers for a much wider range of supported devices including Toshiba, anasonic, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, Fujitsu, Dell, Thinkpad and Samsung laptops.

In contrast, Android devices will be able to run applications from Windows soon thanks to a new software called CrossOver. The company plans to launch their product before 2015 ends, according to PC World.

CrossOver will also work with the open-source compatibility layer Wine. Together, it will make running Windows apps on Android devices possible.
