Apple iPhone 6S, 6S Plus Prebookings Lower Than Expected, Adoption Rates Also Smaller

By

Apple recently unveiled the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus for those who have more cash to burn. However, the pre-orders and pre-bookings for the new smartphone in Asia is quite lower than expected.

In India, the new Apple smartphones will be available on October 16. Pre-orders have not met the expectations.

Part of the reason is because the iPhone 6s is more expensive on pre-orders. Buyers are expecting that the prices of the new phones would be lower after the launch date.

Another reason is that the new phones are much more expensive compared to the launch price last year. Even the entry models of the iPhone 6s Plus cost about Rs 9,500 more, according to Economic Times.

Prebookings might not look good. However, Apple already allowed distributors to sell the new smartphones at their lowest possible prices online. Things might start to pick up once the iPhone 6s becomes widely available to the public.

The iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus isn't doing well in terms of the percentage of total active devices. Out of all the iOS phones, the two just accounts for 2.7 percent. The previous models last year were at 4.0 percent, according to Forbes.

However, the new phones still reign king in other areas across the globe. In Japan, the figure goes up to 6.0 percent. Hong Kong follows at 5.8 percent and Singapore takes the third spot at 3.0 percent.

What does this mean for Apple? It's a make or break situation. Western smartphone markets are very saturated with thousands of new Android models launching every quarter. Even BlackBerry has its own Android-powered smartphone now, the Priv.

Furthermore, the fragmented Android smartphones have security problems as not every updates reaches them. Apple's new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will certainly be viable for any update the Cupertino tech giant rolls out.

The new phones also have decent specs. However, one of the highlights is the 3D Touch display. The 4.7-inch Retina HD display has pliable glass and an integrated touch digitizer, according to BGR.

Materials that were used to assemble the new smartphones may explain its expensive price. Still, Apple products are always known to be overpriced and expensive.

Will the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s plus still rack up more users? A huge chunk of Apple's success is in the hands of the upcoming sales of their new phones.
