Sainsbury said on Monday that it would soon be launching its own mobile phone service. The firm called this new network service "Mobile by Sainsbury's", and a partnership with Vodafone would make this new mobile phone service possible.
This new mobile network service offering was in line with Sainsbury's strategy of going into new business markets. Thus far, the supermarket operator has already sold phones as well as prepaid SIM cards for other networks. It entered the ebook, mp3, and video on demand markets over the past year as well.
Sainsbury, the third biggest supermarket operator in Britain, followed Tesco and Wal-Mart's Asda in terms of annual revenue. It trailed behind Tesco in terms of mobile services though as Tesco has been offered mobile network services since 2003. However, Sainsbury has managed to outperform Tesco last month. The firm's shares were also down 0.3 pence.
