Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands will be the first installment in the Ghost Recon franchise to feature an open world environment. To an extent, Ghost Recon Wildlands will be a soft reboot of the old, more realistic feel to the game, rather than a futuristic, sci-fi setting.
Ubisoft's Paris division has had Ghost Recon Wildlands in development for three years, and has yet to be scheduled a release date. The game was first revealed this June at E3 2015 with an official trailer accompanying the announcement. The trailer presents a definite thumbs-up for the three-year research and hard work that Ubisoft Paris has given in dedication to the authenticity of the game.
Ubisoft Paris has since released a more indepth look at the tremendous amount of effort necessary to make Ghost Recon Wildlands as authentic as possible. GameSpot gives an ample summary of the development diary entry. According to developers, the goal of the game is to create a realistic, modern shooter instead of a wild frenzy of gunning down enemies. Developers want for players to achieve the initial tactical advantage of reconnaissance in order to get into position and approach the problem with a better understanding of the environment. The fact that there is no script to the open-world environment of the game, Ghost Recon Wildlands lends itself to a world of endless possibilities.
The official Ghost Recon Wildlands website explains more about the game's many layered textures- and unique authenticity. Research and in-depth consultation from real-life military units were some of the methods availed by Ubisoft Paris in order to achieve the level of authenticity to the game. Ubisoft Paris and their approach to an overwhelming level of authenticity is highlighted in the realness of the environment set in Bolivia, in the details of drug cartel members down to their facial expressions and slight nuances, and the relevance and appropriateness of the weapons used in the game.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is developed by Ubisoft Paris and will be released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One systems. An official release date has yet to be announced.
