HTC One M9 devices are officially confirmed bound for the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow over-the-air (OTA) update this year. Although there has been no exact date for the release yet, the update will most likely be coming in November or December as the expected time of arrival (ETA).
An article posted on HTC support page entitled "HTC Official Android 6.0 Marshmallow Updates Devices ETA List," the Taiwanese device manufacturer has underscored its roadmap for the Marshmallow update and its respective releases to a laundry list of smartphones. Being a flagship device, One M9 units are privileged to get ahead of other devices as it is now in development stage.
In this stage, HTC is integrating the Sense user interface with the new Android build. In a matter of two weeks or more, testing stage will follow to assess the performance of Marshmallow when already rolled out. If deemed successful, the release stage will come where requirements needed have been met and ready to roll out.
Last September, One M9 had just been updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop software version and in two months time will be receiving another update which is not likely to happen to HTC devices.
With HTC's native features, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software will come with new key features developed by Google plus improvements in apps, system and overall performance. Here's a detailed rundown of what Marshmallow will bring:
1. Google Now. This feature becomes smarter with Marshmallow. The improved Google Now provides information from third-party apps to a pool of data and sifts it through. Google Now gives information like nearby restaurants, map locations, sorts of reviews, upcoming events, and more. This works by press holding the home button while launching the app.
2. Doze. It is the new battery saver of Android phones. Worry no more with battery drain problems because with Doze apps that are not in use or are running in the background will automatically be killed off. This feature also manages apps and features consuming too much power. This operates through hardware sensors and software modifications.
3. Cut, copy and paste. Cut, copy and paste options make its functions more convenient. Use these controls on selected texts and photos.
4. App backup and restore. Downloading apps and setting device after resetting it back to its original or previous state can be too much of a chore. With "App backup and restore" option on Settings, owners can easily regain phone settings and data without breaking a sweat.
5. App Permissions. This feature operates by asking users whether they would allow or deny a certain app from launching, a link to be opened, etc.
Marshmallow also brings direct share, device switch, simpler volume controls and support for various mobile payments.
