Kingsman 2 is currently in the works, and has been slated for a 2017 release. Despite previous dilemma on Taron Egerton, filming is now set to begin in April, while comic book author hinted on the possible return of one notable character.
As noted by /Film, 20th Century Fox has recently slated the sequel to the successful action comedy film for a June 16, 2017 release date. As of writing, the film's only rival on the date is Pixar's Cars 3 which caters to a different target audience. However, for the following weeks, the film will be up against World War Z 2 and Fantastic Four 2. The next weekend will also put the film against Warner Bros' Wonder Woman.
Filming for the sequel is expected to begin next April. According to Independent, an issue on Taron Egerton's schedule happened previously due to the film Robin Hood: Origins which he is also set to lead under Lionsgate, but the differences were eventually fixed. Egerton is now expected to film the sequel in April, and move on to Robin Hood in summer 2016.
Egerton will return to reprise his role as 'Eggsy', who by the end of the previous film has successfully become a part of Kingsman. However, as reported by International Business Times, the film could feature the return of Colin Firth who played the role of Harry Hart, one of the most notable characters in the film.
Although Harry was killed by Valentine in the first film, comic book writer Mark Millar said the creative team is currently working on finding logical ways to make Harry return in the film. "That's the conversation everyone's having right now, because part of what made that movie work is Colin. Colin's fantastic, it was a two-hander, that film. You also want to have the integrity of the story, so if you are bringing him back, it has to make sense", Millar said.
Moreover, director Matthew Vaughn also noted in an interview earlier this year that Harry's death was only featured in a wide-angle shot, which gives them a little room to work on if they plan push through with Harry's return.
Vaughn is currently working on Kingsman 2 although he has not confirmed yet if he will sitting in the director's chair again. Aside from Egerton, no other actors were also confirmed to return, but more details about the film will be delivered as they are announced.
