The "New Girl" Season 5 premiere was pushed back this year due to the maternity leave of its lead star Zooey Deschanel. While the first four seasons of the show all had a September release, the upcoming season will most likely have a January 2016 premiere. With Deschanel taking some time off to spend time with her new baby, it was decided to bring in Megan Fox for the Zooey-less episodes.
Creator and EP Liz Meriwether admitted in an interview that production of "New Girl" Season 5 commenced immediately after the fourth season wrapped up reports Crossmap. This was in anticipation of Zooey's time off post-pregnancy.
Meriwether further revealed that there will only be four episodes without Zooey. They had already filmed four episodes before her leave and she will be back in time to film the rest of the season.
The fans, however, are not taking the Megan Fox news well even after being endorsed by Deschanel herself via her Twitter account. Just Jared further reports that when Deschanel, when asked about Fox joining the cast in a recent tv interview replied, "I'm really happy she's beautiful and very excited she's coming on the show. I was part of the decision and I'm also happy that I'm able to spend time with my baby and that she's coming on, going to be hilarious, and beautiful, and everything else."
Fox also received glowing praises from Meriwether even if she is not quite sure herself how fans will take the episodes without the lead star. There are reports that some fans are demanding that the show runners rethink their decision or face the boycott of fans.
Incidentally, Megan Fox was seen for the first time at the "New Girl" Season 5 set on October 19 reports Starpulse. The "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" star will play the character of Reagan, who is described as a gorgeous and straight shooting pharmaceutical sales rep who comes to town on business and rents Jess' (Deschanel) room while she is sequestered in jury duty.
It will be interesting to see how Zooey Deschanel's absence will play out in "New Girl" Season 5. Do you think Megan Fox filling in for her will be good for the show? Share us what you think in the section below.
