As publisher Focus Home Interactive announced that Styx: Shards of Darkness will debut in 2016, Game developer Cyanide Studios promised a deeper narrative and more complex environ that will give extra feel to the players especially that the game has a new engine: Unreal 4.

Focus Home Interactive and Cyanide Studios bring the centuries-old goblin assassin Styx in a new stealth game Styx: Shards of Darkness. Focus Home Interactive added that the game has a bigger budget, bigger ideas and new engine: the Unreal 4. The Master of Shadow Styx is more refined in the coming sequel. In Shards of Darkness, Styx will explore deeper into more complex narrative and fully realized world.

The official website also wrote:

"Following the fall of Akenash tower, an extraordinary matter has forced Styx out of hiding to infiltrate Körangar, the city of the Dark Elves. Supposedly impregnable, a diplomatic summit offers Styx a chance at slipping in unnoticed, as he learns that the event is nothing but a mere façade... Moreover, the Elves have joined forces with the Dwarves, and the only thing both races have in common is a mutual hatred of the Goblins..."

The site added that the game is an invite to move into a stealthy exploration with unfamiliar enemies, new environments, and a surfeit of new progression targeted at honing the abilities and movement of Styx. These movements include grappling around corners, climbing ropes, and using his trusty knife as a zip-wire besides sneaking and killing his enemies.

PC Gamer wrote that Cyanide Studios has been improving Shards using Unreal Engine 4. The game features Styx that is "nimbler, more refined" who can sneak into Dark Elf City, being one of many extensive mission areas.

Fans like Eric Hall are all eager to find out what Cyanide Studios can do with the next installment of Styx. If the developer can mend the annoying issues that afflicted the earlier title, this sequel could potentially be an actual hit, he added.

Available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC, Styx: Shards of Darkness is anticipated to debut sometime in 2016.
