AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 Units Receive Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA Update; Stagefright Bug Patch Included

As it was promised, AT&T with the help of Samsung Electronics, has rolled out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop upgrade to Samsung Galaxy S5 via over-the-air. The Lollipop 5.1.1 has brought security updates and most importantly patched the Stagefright Vulnerability bug.

According to Tech Times, the update was solely for Samsung Galaxy S5 and doesn't encompass the S5 Active and S5 Mini. The Texas-based telecommunications corporation has started rolling out the Android 5.1.1 OTA for the Galaxy S5 last Oct. 22.

Based to the summary sheet, the update contains security updates. It was noted that the major concer addressed with the Lollipop 5.1.1 upgrade was the vulnerabilities that Stagefright 1.0 and Stagefright 2.0 exploits.

Furthermore, Softpedia stated on its article that the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update file size is between 610MB and 1GB, handlers of Galaxy S5 have to make sure they have enough storage space before attempting to download and install the upgrade.

GottaBeMobile added that the Lollipop 5.1.1 update is a big one and it actually offers a number of enhancements to Samsung's pioneer smartphone, Galaxy S5. The full change log includes, Android 5.1.1, Android For Work, Security updates and Fix to Ultra Power Saver mode for devices using On Device Encryption.

Since the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update has been rolled out already, it is most likely already available for the particular unit. But just in case, it doesn't pop-out on one's notifications, users can manually check by going to Settings and into the about section. There, handlers of Galaxy S5 can manually check the Android 5.1.1 update. If it's available, which should be, users will be prompted to download the upgrade.

As Android Lollipop 5.1.1 now becomes available for AT&T's Samsung Galaxy S5, most probably the newest operating system will be the next one to arrive on the handset. Meanwhile users of this device should savor the enhancement that the Lollipop update brings and wait as their carrier and Samsung Electronics announce the roll out for Marshmallow.
