bDespite speculations about a possible recasting for Indiana Jones 5, producer Frank Marshall confirmed that Harrison Ford's Indy will not be replaced. Steven Spielberg is also likely to direct the film after he dropped hints on the project.
After the announcement of a fifth installment in the long-running franchise, many names have been rumored to don the fedora and replace Ford as Indiana Jones. However, according to Den of Geek, Frank Marshall has finally put an end to the rumors and clarified that the franchise will not adapt the format used by James Bond films.
"We're not doing the Bond thing where we're going to call somebody else Indiana Jones", Marshall said. However, he also confirmed that the passing of 'the baton' is a possibility. "We haven't even sat down to talk about Indy yet... at some point we'll sit down. But there's a bunch of people who could probably take the baton", he added.
Basing on Mashall's statement, it could be that a new and younger generation will continue and embark on new adventures with Ford's Indiana Jones as their mentor or guide. Moreover, as stated by Cinema Blend, 'the baton' could be passed on to Jones' students as he shares his knowledge with them.
Also, without confirming his involvement with the film, director Steven Spielberg teased that he might sit in the director's chair. As reported by Inquisitr, Spielberg talked about his collaborations with Tom Hanks and Harrison Ford on different projects and eventually hinted on his possible return to helm the fifth Indiana Jones as well as Ford's return as the central character.
"We've gotta figure this out because now, Tom is tied with Harrison Ford: Harrison and I did four movies, Tom and I have done four movies. Now I'll probably do an Indy 5 with Harrison, [so] it'll be five for Harrison, four for Tom. I've got to make another one with Tom, that'll be five for Tom, five for Harrison", Spielberg said.
Aside from Harrison Ford, no other actors have been confirmed to join the cast for Indiana Jones 5. Plot details and release date for the film are currently under wraps but more details are expected for the film when takes production progress.
