ASUS current flagship, Zenfone 2 was a huge success and the company is speculated to release another smartphone for its flagship line-up. The CEO of the ASUS has confirmed that the upcoming ASUS Zenfone 3 will support the USB Type-C Connector.
According to BGR, ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih stated on an interview that "I think Type-C is the way to go, frankly speaking. You will see the answer when you see the Zenfone 3." Aside from the verification of the new line up of the Zenfone smartphone and USB Type-C support, there were no further information about the new device.
Furthermore, Latinos Post stated on its article that Apple was one of the first tech manufacturers to use the USB Type-C. The port was featured on the 12-inch MacBook, which released in early 2015. Google has used the same technology on its newest flagship smartphones, the LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P. Chinese tech giant, OnePlus also incorporated the USB Type-C OnePlus 2.
Some of the benefits of having USB Type-C on mobile devices is that it's reversible and durable. With the new port, the inconvenience of plugging USB drives and cables the wrong way were eradicated. A Type-C plug can be hooked in either way to a Type-C connector and its reversibility even works on USB 3.1, 3.0 and 2.0.
In addition, NDTV Gadget reported that apart from the confirmation of the Zenfone 3 sporting USB Type-C Asus also launched its ZenFone 2 Laser 5.5 (ZE550KL) smartphone in India priced at Rs. 13,999. The handset will be the third variant in the ZenFone 2 Laser sub-series. In August the company has started taking pre-orders for the smartphone in India alongside pre-orders for ZenFone Selfie and ZenFone 2 Delux. The ZenFone 2 Laser 5.5 (ZE550KL) ran on Android 5.0 Lollipop, feature 4G connectivity and Dual-SIM dual-standby support.
The information about the ASUS Zenfone 3 was very limited and it seems that it would still take time before the company unveils the handset. Meanwhile, the sub-series under Zenfone 2 that hit the second largest market might generate a lot of sales for ASUS.
