'Divergent: Allegiant' is the first in a two-part science-fiction film intended as the conclusion to the cinematic trilogy. It picks up after events of 'Divergent: Insurgent' where Theo James' Four and Shailene Woodley's Tris escape the walled city and find themselves embroiled in a new rebellion outside Chicago. Author Veronica Roth also released her Collector's Edition novels.
According to the Inquisitr, the newest official trailer for the upcoming adventure film showed Four and Tris escaping from the walled city they thought to be their home and out into the vast world beyond it. With them were comrades Caleb, Peter, Tori and Christina.
One of the most anticipated parts for 'Divergent: Allegiant' includes the characters' journey towards the truth of their existence. They would soon meet the people behind the mysterious Bureau of Genetic Welfare, where they learn the truth about their society while another rebellion is slowly brewing.
Another article from Entertainment Weekly revealed the titles of the separate films in the back-to-back last installment of the series. Part one will remain 'Divergent: Allegiant' while part two is christened 'Divergent: Ascendant'. The latter was revealed to have an unexpected ending.
While the last novel in author Veronica Roth's trilogy ended with Tris sacrificing herself for the future of humanity, there had been much speculation whether the film will use the controversial ending as well. As with part two's title change, Roth explained that there may be some changes and its extent remains too early to tell. She added, "I know changes always make fans of the books - and the author! - nervous, but hopefully the characters we know (and love. Or sometimes love to hate?) will still be intact, which is really the important thing."
According to the Australia Network News, Roth's 'Divergent: Allegiant' Collector's Edition has finally been released to the public last October 6, 2015 ahead of the final films and features deleted scenes as well as entries from Natalie Prior's journal. One deleted scene features Tris and Four reuniting with the Dauntless faction. Another one featured an emotional scene with Tris and Peter.
Roth revealed that she had to edit out the Dauntless scene as well as the one with Tris and Peter since it weighed down the plot. The Collector's Edition contains 48 pages of talks about the Dauntless rebellion. An excerpt from the newly released edition read, "...Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature-and of herself-while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love."
'Divergent: Allegiant' is scheduled to be released on March 18, 2016 and 'Divergent: Ascendant' will follow in March 24, 2017. It will feature the return of several actors including Woodley as Tris, James Four, Naomi Watts as Evelyn Johnson-Eaton, Octavia Spencer as Johanna Reyes, Miles Teller as Peter, Ansel Egort as Caleb Prior and Maggie Q as Tori Wu. Jeff Daniels joins the cast as the latest antagonist, David.
