"Dead Island 2" Update: Timo Ullmann Expresses Frustrations On Game's Cancellation; Halt Due To Publisher's Misaligned Vision

By

Yager Development managing director Timo Ullmann has expressed his frustrations on cancelling an in-progress game titled "Dead Island 2." It has been reported that the main reason for the halt was due to the publisher's vision, which was misaligned with that of Yager.

According to GamesIndustry, Timo Ullmann admitted how disappointed he was with the Germany-based video game studio Yager Development. He said that "having a project cancelled in such a late slate is a catastrophic event on so many different levels." Ullmann deems such move as the one of the worst possible outcomes in his career, especially if they have spent three years working on it - let alone the fact that "everybody involved loses."

Yager's decision to remove itself from "Dead Island 2" project has brought them their demise. In fact, many said that the studio's involvement with the said game has been the "single-purpose" division of the company created particularly to work on the game. Reports have it that many jobs were lost, as result of the project being moved to a different developer.

VG247 explained that during that time, the publisher's vision didn't align with that of Yager, which resulted to the studio shutting down one sub-division and letting go of all its staff. Nonetheles, contrary to what others believe, Yager Development still reportedly exists, only with the Productions division shut down. Ullmann is said to inform their "staff about what was going to happen prior to that," as clear communication is always essential to them.

Crossmap, on the other hand, reported that despite the shattering events, Germany has guaranteed a three-month pay for those involved in the "Dead Island 2" project even if it was moved to another developer. The game is an upcoming action role-playing survival horror video game that was supposedly developed by Yager Development. But with its cancellation, it is now reportedly being developed by an unnamed studio and published by Deep Silver.

For sure, not only Timo Ullmann is frustrated with the "Dead Island 2's" cancellation, as lots of fans have been anticipating it. Nonetheless, if reports are true about a studio working on it already, then there's still hope about the game coming to fruition.
