Guerrilla Games have kept information about their new open world RPG Horizon: Zero Dawn at a bare minimum. This week, senior executive producer Mark Norris sheds some light on the HZD story and gameplay through an interview and an exclusive PlayStation gameplay walkthrough.
While Norris remains vague in answering questions, the senior producer clearly dropped mega-hints on what to expect in the HZD story. Norris takes note that Guerrilla Games' Horizon: Zero Dawn will tell the story of the central character Aloy and the dystopian post-apocalyptic open world she lives in. Norris explains that keeping the game limited to a single character gives room for telling the story of Aloy's history and how her world came to be.
Continuing the interview with DualShockers.com, Horizon: Zero Dawn senior executive producer Mark Norris sheds more of much needed light in the game's elusive gameplay. Keeping information at a minimum, Norris does mention that navigating the entire expanse of the open world in HZD will not be limited to walking or running. Mounts then are an open possibility as a means of apt transportation. The game environment is massive and open-world similar to Skyrim or GTA according to Norris, and due to its vast size, the game will likely have mounts in order to navigate properly.
PlayStation's release of the exclusive Paris Games Week 2015 Horizon: Zero Dawn Walkthrough video brings the story of Aloy and her tribe to life. Cyborg-like animals in the game are equipped with a herd mentality, easily spooked, and predictable in term of their initial reactions. It's a crucial aspect of in-game navigation. Through stealth and making use of the full extent of her abilities and the environment, Aloy can set up traps with her grappling hook and control the direction that a herd can go. The walkthrough clearly encourages players to explore the open world of the game, and to explore the different activities that main protagonist Aloy needs to accomplish in order to progress throughout the game.
Horizon: Zero Dawn will be a PS4 exclusive game and is expected to be released in 2016.
