AMC and Channel 4's co-production, "Humans," is now renewed for a second season and will delve deeper into different relationships between humans and "synths."
The hit sci-fi drama became U.K. network, Channel 4's, most successful drama in 20 years which was imported by AMC in the US. According to HollywoodReporter, writers of the series say that they will feature more conscious "synths" in the upcoming season. One of the writers, Sam Vincent shares in an interview that most of their wonderful cast will be returning next season. He also adds when asked what viewers can expect in the upcoming instalment, "We want to go deeper into relationships between humans and synths, all kinds: sexual ones, love ones, romantic love, platonic love and familial." This deeper exploration between these relationships will be partly achieved through new characters and possibly new relationships among existing ones.
The writer teases that the synths in the next season will be even more sophisticated and integrated into human society, also promising "a new antagonist or two." He also revealed that the small group of "conscious" synths from the first season aren't the only conscious ones after all.
Meanwhile, writing duo Sam Vincent and Jonathan Bradley reveals to Digital Spy that they have long-term plans for the sci-fi drama as they already have a rough idea of what could take place beyond Season 2.
Brackley shares, "I think that's one of the advantages of doing a show that has a 360-degree look at the world... Rather than setting it specifically in one genre -- like in a police station, and they're all robot cops -- it's a big ensemble piece looking at the whole world. I think because of that, we can go anywhere and do anything."
Digital Spy adds that "Humans" is loosely based on a Swedish sci-fi series called "Real Humans," but the writers said the upcoming season will steer further away from the original series.
In other news, the much-loved "Humans" star Gemma Chan who plays Anita in the series will showcase her musical skills on the violin in the next season's soundtrack.
Stay tuned as "Humans" recharges for its second season on AMC this 2016.
