Qualcomm Denies Snapdragon 820 Overheating Issues, Rumors Not True

By

Qualcomm is refuting rumors of its Snaprdragon 820 overheating on several popular phones such as the LG G Flex 2 and even the HTC One M9.

Samsung is reportedly planning to use the SoC for the upcoming Galaxy S7 flagship. However, there are rumors that the company is currently trying to fix an overheating issue for the chip.

The U.S.-based tech company said on Thursday that the rumors were simply false and that their Snapdragon 820 is working as it should be. Samsung has not issued a statement regarding the issue.

Qualcomm told NDTV: "The rumours circulating in the media regarding Snapdragon 820 performance are false. The Snapdragon 820 improves on all IP blocks and is fabricated in the second generation of the 14nm process technology. It is meeting all of our specifications. But more importantly it is satisfying the thermal and performance specifications from our OEMs."

Samsung said earlier that they are looking to return to Qualcomm's chip for their new Galaxy phone. However, they did not mention which chip they will use.

There are also phones that would use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip in the following months, according to Techno Buffalo. The chip does have reported problems, however.

The LG G Flex 2 was admitted to have the overheating issue, but it was fixed in a software update. It was one of the first smartphones to feature the controversial chip.

Even the HTC One M9 had the same overheating issue. A software update was also rolled out to fix the problem. With all the reported issues, it's hard to believe that the Snapdragon 820 isn't the problem.

Rumors started to surface after the company announced the chipset, according to GSM Arena. It's not the first time that Qualcomm had rumors regarding overheating issues on some of their products.

The Snapdragon 820 will just have to prove itself when more phones launch in the following months. Qualcomm is firm in their stand that there is no overheating issue present in their new chipset.
