Microsoft releases Insider Preview build 10581 to fix known issues from previous builds

Windows 10 Mobile with an Insider Preview build 10581 was rolled out to Windows Insiders on the Fast ring on October 29. It is said that the new build gives more fixes and performance improvements than introducing new features. This time, older builds can directly update to build 10581 and need not to downgrade their phone back down to Windows Phone 8.1.

According to Windows' Insider head, Gabe Aul, he confirmed the details of the roll out and the new things that it can bring to devices. He specified in his blog that if users stayed on Build 10536 or if users flashed back to Windows Phone 8.1 and then installed 10549 or 10572, they can upgrade directly to this new build without going back to 8.1 again. Aul also gave the things that the new build can fix from the known issues of previous builds.

To detail the fixes, the new Build 10581 can let "Hey Cortana" work again in Windows 10. To ensure that this is working, users can go to Settings, then Extras, and click on Hey Cortana. Another fix is that users can now select photos and share through third party apps such as Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and more. The blog also stated that the new build can fix several bugs that impact the battery life of mobile phones.

In addition, Aul mentioned in his blog that Windows users have now the ability to choose apps through the Lock screen. Video recording and voicemail sync have improvements too. Issues like dual-SIM in Build 10572 and QWERTY keyboard have also received some fixes. In general, the new build brings fixes to nine issues from previous builds.

However, ZDNET mentioned that issues are most likely to happen when updating the new build. The report said that users may encounter black screen and crashes to SD card and some apps. Windows Central also noted Aul's statement that the issue of deploying Silverlight apps through Visual Studio will most likely to occur so, users can instead deploy to UWP apps. The report added that backup photos may be corrupted during the update, but users can go to Settings, then Personalization, and click Start and apply a different background picture.

As of the moment, the new build is still under trial for some devices before it will become available for public use. Though, Microsoft ensured that it is worth the wait when the times comes that the new build can now be used to all Windows devices.
