Samsung Galaxy S5 units on Verizon Wireless are expected to receive the official over-the-air (OTA) update of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop in November as AT&T prompted move later in October. Android Lollipop's final software version is slated to bring in performance optimization, security patches and several other improvements.
Verizon's Galaxy S5 smartphones will receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop through an official OTA release of the South Korean tech giant. The update has been expected for Samsung's 2013 flagship device following rollouts to AT&T's units. T-Mobile has pioneered the update on the update since September.
Galaxy S5 has just already been confirmed to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software early in 2016 as Samsung revealed. Amid the Android 6.0 Marshmallow fuss and frenzy, many Galaxy S5 owners are still hopeful to see a glimpse of the final Lollipop update.
The device has been one of the widely called out ones on community forums to be upgraded alongside Galaxy Note 4 which was also confirmed for Marshmallow.
Meanwhile, the OTA update will come when device is connected to Wi-Fi. If prompted for the update, click "Install Now" and follow onscreen instructions. To manually check for it, head to Settings > About phone/device > Software updates > Check for updates. Before proceeding with the installation, charge up device to at least 50% while storage should have enough memory space depending on the file size.
Android 5.1.1 Lollipop comes with improvements in Material Design user interface, fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C support, device sharing, and device sync, among others.
It's a "tune-up" version of Lollipop overhauled to give a full-load experience of the software's final update. Lollipop will bring bold, colorful and dynamic design for the user interface. Google's Material Design has also been improved with crisp shadows for depth and smooth interactions.
It also brings bright hue palette, more fluid movements and fresh typography to finish the cleanest, minimalist design.
