A recent survey for selected gamers conducted by Sony suggests that a PlayStation 4 4.0 firmware update is on its way. Rumors tip that the PS4 4.0 firmware update will give support for PS1 and PS2 games, and a revamped easy-to-navigate media library.
Sony recently surveyed select gamers according to a leak in the NeoGAF forums. In a checklist form, the survey asked the participants to select which features they would like to see in the next firmware update. It was reported that Sony seemed to have been trying to discover what improvements gamers would request to be included for the PS4 4.0 update.
According to a report by Softpedia, the rumored PS4 4.0 firmware update would support earlier games like those for the PS1 and PS2. Currently, it is only in the PS3 that PS1 and PS2 games are supported. If the rumor turns out to be true, the PS4 could attract more PS3 users to its market.
Another improvement that could be offered in the next 4.0 firmware update is a revamped media library. The current PS4 media library is reportedly difficult to navigate and too cluttered as per Game Rant. The 4.0 firmware update could enable PS4 users to filter and delete items as well as create new folders in the library.
One more most-requested feature by gamers that will likely appear in the 4.0 firmware update for PS4 is the ability to change PSN IDs. Other rumored features are creating wishlists, avatar downloads, custom backgrounds, and an option to go offline.
The survey also asked gamers when they expect the new 4.0 firmware update to be rolled out. Answers of the participants included before 2015 ends up to 2017. Sony has not yet announced a possible release date for the PS4 4.0 firmware update.
GameZone reported that the latest PS4 firmware update is version 3.10 which was just recently rolled out by Sony. The 3.10 update included new small features like the ability to create customized messages with stickers and follow accounts in Profile and What's New.
The release date of the PS4 4.0 firmware update will depend on Sony's development and testing timeline. The survey for gamers indicated that Sony has plans to push the update and incorporate features that fans would like in order to attract more customers to purchase the PS4.
