Microsoft HoloLens has a contender in the form of Google Magic Leap; Will HoloLens revolutionize tech industry?

Microsoft HoloLens faces competition in the form of Google Magic Leap, another yet-to-be released augmented reality device. The HoloLens is said to revolutionize the entire technological industry when it launches in the near future.

Augmented reality is a new niche that tech companies are currently exploring, with Microsoft being one of those in the lead. Microsoft's HoloLens faces another contender in the augmented reality market with the rumored upcoming Google Magic Leap.

According to a report by Tech Insider, Google's Magic Leap will be a headset similar to the HoloLens but with an edge. The Magic Leap augmented reality device is said to eliminate the viewing limitations of the Microsoft HoloLens. Rachel Metz, a tech review writer in MIT, said that the Magic Leap projects light directly into the eye to remove the problem of limited field of view.

Although a launch has not been confirmed, Magic Leap said that its own augmented reality tech is "not far" from being made to reality. If it launches, the Microsoft HoloLens will face another market share competitor. Other augmented reality devices by other companies that rival the HoloLens are the Sony PlayStation VR, the Samsung Oculus Gear VR, and Google Glass. Even Asus said that it is considering making its own HoloLens, reported Venture Capital Post.

Despite the competition, Business Insider reported that Microsoft HoloLens will be the pioneer in the field of augmented reality and will likely revolutionize the entire tech industry. However, this is assuming that Microsoft will be successful in pitching the device to the market. According to IDC researcher Ramon Llamas, Microsoft has an ace up in its sleeve in the form of Windows 10 Universal App.

"The use cases, in theory, can be bridged to multiple vertical marketers into multiple applications," said Llamas. "The power and potential is there but it is potential and the one thing that is missing is the end users." Microsoft needs to properly position the HoloLens to encourage customers to buy it.
