Playstation VR as new gaming platform; Rumored game titles include London Heist, Rigs, The Assembly

Sony PlayStation VR will be marketed as a new gaming platform to maintain the company's lead in the gaming industry. Rumored game titles to come to the PlayStation VR include London Heist, Rigs, The Assembly, Among the Sleep, and more.

Sony's press conference at the 2015 Tokyo Game Show revealed that Project Morpheus will be called PlayStation VR. In order to continue being on top of the video game market, Sony CEO Andrew House said that the PlayStation VR will be positioned as "a new gaming platform" according to a report by Christian Today.

House said that PlayStation VR will change the rules of game development. "You're seeing a large amount of interest and work happening among smaller teams, because it's possible to create something in VR that is very simple but still very magical," House added.

IT Pro reported that PlayStation VR uses full positional real-time tracking, providing a 3D interactive experience for the user. Dual-shock controllers with integrated motion-control capability can be used to play the games. PlayStation VR uses handheld batons to track the player's movements and to enable game actions like reloading weapons.

The report added that PlayStation VR dons a 5.7" 1920 x 1080 OLED display and a camera for smooth and accurate head-tracking. The machine will have a refresh rate of 90 Hz and 120 Hz, a social screen, as well as 3D audio features.

Sony announced that 10 game titles such as Rigs and The Assembly will come bundled with PlayStation VR at launch. The London Heist crime game is also expected to be included in the VR device. It is possible that PlayStation VR games will not be fully separate titles but more like additional stages for non-VR games.

Games exclusively for PlayStation that are likely to come with the VR are Among the Sleep, Futuridium VR, Harmonix Music VR, Trackmania Turbo, and World War Toons. VR versions of Japanese games such as Hatsune Miku and Final Fantasy are likely to be included as well.

A Stuff report said that PlayStation VR offers a full console virtual reality gaming experience better than the Samsung Gear VR. Sony confirmed that the demo version of PlayStation VR in the TGS 2015 was close to the final version. The hands-on report further states that PlayStation VR is the perfect example of virtual reality gaming.

The PlayStation VR is said to cost similar to a new gaming platform at around £450. It will likely launch in early February, facing market competition with Oculus Rift.
