'Legally Blonde 3' may be a possibility as revealed by lead actress Reese Witherspoon. She shared her thoughts on a third film in the comedy series centered on young lawyer Elle Woods. Co-stars Luke Wilson and Mary Lynn Rajskub are also pushing for a sequel.

According to ET Canada, Reese Witherspoon hinted that she may return as lead protagonist Elle Woods during an interview. She admitted that although there have been no concrete plans as of the moment, she already has some ideas about the plot for the third film in the series. She said, "The screeners wrote me and they said they were going to think about it."

In another interview with Rachel Zoe, Witherspoon said that she would like to see her character take on the Oval Office. She said, "I think we're ready to see Elle and see what she's up to lately... A lot of writers over the years have come up with different ideas for it... I actually think it's kind of great right now because we're talking about women in politics and how important that is to get more women. And I think it'd be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court justice or someone who runs for office."

Her character Elle was first introduced in 2001 as an attractive, bubbly and outgoing sorority girl. At first, she may seem like the stereotypical ditzy blonde but in the end she proves herself to be an unstoppable dynamo with wits to challenge whoever stands in her way. She eventually earns her Juris Doctor degree and gains the respect of her peers.

According to Variety, 'Legally Blonde' grossed $141 million worldwide against an $18 million budget. Since then, it continued to grow popularity on video and cable ratings. Its sequel 'Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blue' debuted in 2003. In 2007, it was eventually adapted into a Broadway musical with Laura Bell Bundy in the starring role.

Witherspoon's co-stars Luke Wilson and Mary Lynn Rajskub rallied for a third installment in the series as well, according to the Mirror. Wilson, who plays Emmett Richmond, a young attorney married to Elle, and Rajskub, who played sheriff's wife Reena Giuliani in the second film, both expressed optimism to jump back on board for a sequel. Wilson said, "Apparently [Legally Blonde 2] wasn't as highly thought of as the first one ... that's why we need to do three, to win everyone back."

'Legally Blonde 3' is a planned third film in the franchise that may feature Witherspoon in the lead role. The first film released last 2001 was a critical success. It received generally positive ratings and subsequently spawned a sequel, a spin-off, and a Broadway musical.
