In last week's episode of "You're the Worst" Season 2, Gretchen expressed, quite clearly at that, that she could not be fixed and it was not Jimmy's job to fix her. So, Jimmy expectedly does the exact opposite of what she told him not to do.
Jimmy had hoped that Gretchen will be feeling better after the Halloween-themed Sunday Funday he pretended was Edgar's idea. Although it was a thoughtful thing to do, it was also awfully misguided.
The episode started with everyone singing their "Sunday Funday" song in spooky voices with even Gretchen seriously getting into it reports Vulture. The group's next stop was the costume shop where Jimmy dressed up as Heathstead, a character from the British TV show, Buckle Your Shoes. However, no one knew who he was. Gretchen's getup was "Game of Thrones" character Daenerys Targaryen courtesy of Jimmy who shelled out $1,400 for the costume. Edgar was The Situation from Jersey Shore while Lindsay was a sexy sailor.
Lindsay ran into Paul who was Stephen Hawking on Halloween night. He was on a wheelchair and pretended to have cerebral palsy. He somehow got into Lindsay's head that she is a quitter.
Also in the episode, it was revealed that Edgar has not had sex in three years. TV Line reports that he was afraid to tell Dorothy because it would mean opening up about his PTSD also. However, an incident in the Hollywood Murder Tour they went to forced him to come clean and they later had sex.
In the end, Jimmy admitted to Gretchen that the Halloween Sunday Funday was his idea. As expected, Gretchen was furious at him. However, she came up with an idea that was as misguided as Jimmy's was reports EW. She pretended to Jimmy that his Spooky Sunday Funday worked and she was feeling better. She thought this will stop Jimmy in trying to fix her clinical depression.
For the first time this season, Jimmy was seriously tempted when he headed to the bar after Gretchen got mad at him. He flirted with Nina, the owner of the bar and was the only person who knew what his costume was. She was to join him for a drink but stopped when she saw Gretchen at Jimmy's table.
