HTC has promised to bring the Android 6.0 Marshmallow to its handsets including HTC One M8 and M9, skipping the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop version. But the status of the HTC One M7's update is still unknown.
According to Gospel Herald, HTC America's president Jason Mackenzie announced the devices that will obtain the Marshmallow update in a tweet last month. These include the HTC One M9, One M8, One M9 Plus, One E9 Plus, One E9, One ME, One M8, One M8 Eye, Butterfly 3, Desire 826, Desire 820 and Desire 816. Mackenzie highlighted that Android 6.0 for the One M9 and One M8 will be out at the before 2015 ends.
With this announcement, it is reportedly most likely for the Taiwan-based company to skip Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and switch over to Marshmallow starting this month. But for now, all HTC devices will stay with earlier versions of Android Lollipop.
In addition, Yibada stated on its article that Taiwanese tech giant could be preparing to release the HTC One M8 Android Marshmallow update really soon. Its software update build for the device has already appeared in a Bluetooth SIG certification, which means it is more likely ready to go. Unluckily, the Android Marshmallow update status for HTC One M7 is still unknown.
It was also reported that after HTC starts rolling out the latest update to its devices, it would still take time for the carriers in the United States to roll out the Android 6.0 M update. The reason behind is that US carriers must first put the Marshmallow update through soak test before release. Moreover, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint and AT&T haven't uttered any word yet about the release of Android M on their devices.
Latinos Post, stated some of the enhancements that Android M might bring to the above mentioned devices. One of which is a better battery life through the intelligent system idling process called "Doze" mode. There would also be more granular control over app permissions and a smartphone-wide dark theme for low light use. Lastly, it'll provide a built-in support for Android Pay mobile payments.
Since the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will surely come to HTC One M8 and M9, users of these devices will just have to wait before 2016 to obtain the update. On the other hand, the HTC One M7 users still have to sit tight until HTC confirms whether it will roll out or not the latest OS to the handset.
