Samsung Galaxy S5 on Verizon Wireless is currently receiving the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop software update. The first update of Lollipop brings in minor tweaks and enhancements on security and battery life.
Verizon has just started releasing the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop software update to its units of Samsung Galaxy S5. The device had been confirmed already to receive the most exciting Android 6.0 Marshmallow software by the first quarter of 2016. According to Samsung's official list for its Marshmallow plans, Galaxy S5 is bound to test Google's new build as it is currently in development.
Aside from Verizon, Sprint also releases the same update for its Galaxy S5 units. Meanwhile, AT&T and T-Mobile had rolled it out since the past few months. US Cellular, on the other hand, lags behind with units still running on Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update is not as massive as Android 5.0. However, it was considered an important and big update since it will deliver new features and enhancements.
First and foremost, it brings fixes to two major Android 5.0 bugs. One bug is not common as it will only occur if triggered by a series of events affecting the lock screen. Second is the video playback problem causing inconvenience when watching movies, video content and the like. With Android 5.0.1, it will wipe out the device from critical bugs and make it clean.
According to a report of Gotta Be Mobile last year, Android 5.0.1 Lollipop is the only option to remove these bugs aside from the fact that it is more stable than Android 5.0.
The update also brings fixes to smaller issues that may not be enlisted in the change log. Most of these issues were brought by KitKat software updates 4.4.4 and 4.4.3.
Aside from these fixes, Android 5.0.1 will also come in to improve overall performance of the device. It targets improvements on Wi-Fi, speed, Bluetooth, LTE, and battery life.
