Microsoft released five driver updates for the Surface Book and four firmware updates for the Surface Pro 4 to address display and stability issues. The updates are to arrive on all Surface devices via Windows Update, albeit not simultaneously.
On its website, Microsoft announced that it has released five new driver updates - five for the Surface Book and four for the Surface Pro 4. The updates are labeled as "System Firmware Update - 11/2/2015" in users' update history.
The driver updates for Microsoft Surface Book mainly focus on solving display issues like screen flickering. "HD Graphics 520 driver update (v20.19.15.4308) addresses some display issues, including some scenarios that result in screen flickering. Display audio driver update (v8.20.0.659) supports compatibility with the updated graphics driver," stated Microsoft in its website.
The Surface Book updates also bring improvement to the device's stability and Windows 10 functionality. Microsoft continued, "Surface Embedded Controller Firmware update (v88.855.257.0) improves system stability. Surface System Aggregator Firmware update (v88.853.258.0) improves the keyboard and trackpad experience. Surface Pen Settings driver (v10.0.302.0) adds support for future functionality on Windows 10."
Firmware updates for the Surface are basically the same as those of the Surface Book. They also address the screen flicker issue in the device as well as adding stability and Windows 10 compatibility enhancements. Instead of the Surface System Aggregator Firmware update (v88.853.258.0), the Surface Pro 4 gets the Surface Embedded Controller Firmware update (v103.855.257.0) to boost system stability.
ZDnet reported that not all devices will be able to get the updates at the same time, though Microsoft assures that all users will receive them. Users are advised to manually check Windows Update regularly.
In its launch, the Microsoft Surface Book was reported to be full of bugs. Users complained of experiencing problems with the display and performance of the device. Venture Capital Post earlier reported that Microsoft was working out a solution to permanently fix these issues.
Microsoft is trying to address all issues with a software update. Users who install the latest firmware update will automatically get all prior updates on their devices.
