HP released its answer to Microsoft's Surface Pro with its new Spectre X2 laptop. The HP Spectre X2 is a laptop-tablet hybrid that resembles the Surface Pro but has better specs and better price.
Latin Post reported that HP launched the Spectre X2 the day after Microsoft announced its new Surface Pro 4. The HP Spectre X2 competes with premium hybrids in the market including the Surface Pro detachables. The report stated that the HP Spectre X2's light design gives it an edge among other 2-in-1 devices in the market.
According to a report by PC World, the HP Spectre X2 is a "clone" of the Microsoft Surface Pro products. The Spectre X2 comes with a kickstand that is previously unique to Surface Pro hybrids. It also adopts the Surface Pro's sleek and lightweight shape and design.
However, HP's 2-in-1 device has an advantage over the Surface Pro 4: it is less expensive. The report added that the base version of the Spectre X2 with the keyboard is sold at a cheaper price of US$800, while Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 has a starting price of $900 without the keyboard.
It is reported that HP's Spectre X2 comes with a 12-inch, 10-point touch screen, active pen support, and a magnetic detachable keyboard. It also features a 150-degree rotating kickstand and weighs at 1.85 pounds without the keyboard or 2.69 pounds with the keyboard. The device runs quietly without a fan, explaining how it got its name.
The report continued to say that less throttling is expected with the HP Spectre X2. Technology Personalized reported that the hybrid runs on the latest Intel Core M processor while the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 carries a dual-core i7 Intel Skylake chip. The Spectre X2 was also reported to have 8GB of RAM, and a battery that can last for 10 hours. It also has two USB Type-C ports, four speakers, and an Intel RealSense 3D camera at the back.
HP released other products aside from the Spectre X2. These are the HP Envy Note 8, HP Envy notebook, and the HP Envy Curved All-In-One PC.
