Cloud Imperium Games announced recently the updates for Star Citizen called Alpha 2.0, yet there is no specific date for its release. Game developer promised that the update will change the course of flying.
MNR Daily reported that Star Citizen will go through changes with the upcoming Alpha 2.0. The update will add together three new flight modes, Quantum Travel, and third order motion control system.
The Official Website of Star Citizen further described Alpha 2.0. According to developers, the updates will change the future of flight.
The site mentioned that the flashiest new feature is the additional flight modes: Precision, Space Combat Maneuvers (SCM), and Cruise. In Precision Mode (aka IFCS 2.0), the takeoff and landing are much easier, but will also improve control around other objects such as asteroids, derelict craft or when approaching other live craft during In-Flight Refueling or Boarding maneuvers. SCM Mode is one of the biggest changes to the flight control system, but on the surface it closely mimics the current flight mechanics that players may already use in Arena Commander. Cruise Mode can be utilize for longer distance travel. If the speed limit defined in SCM gives the pilot control at the expense of velocity, Cruise Mode gives the pilot velocity at the expense of control.
Another change brought by Alpha 2.0 is the Quantum Leap that once activated, the ship will quickly notch up the velocity to the 0.2c limit with the ship itself experiencing moderately tiny acceleration. On the move at these unconceivable speeds is fairly unsafe, so the ship computer will mechanically pull the player out of Quantum Travel if there is a possible collision detected.
Another improved details is the 3rd order motion control system. It is considered as the biggest change to IFCS. The 3rd order motion system will change the ship's balancing and fixed thruster error and Turbulence.
Aside from the introductions of various changes, Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 will alter components and address issues on the game, wrote Gear Nuke. Although, no release date has been announced for Alpha 2.0, game designer Pete Mackay and physics programmer John Pritchett revealed these major changes in a video.
Star Citizen is designed by Chris Roberts and developed by Cloud Imperium Games for Microsoft Windows and Linux.
