‘Kong: Skull Island’ Filming Begins in Hawaii, Reveals Massive Skeletal Remains On-Set; Samuel L. Jackson Learns to Fly Helicopter

'Kong: Skull Island' is an action-adventure sequel to Peter Jackson's 2005 remake of the monster classic. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has begun production in Hawaii as revealed by massive skeletal remains on the filming set in Oahu. Samuel L. Jackson is learning to fly a vintage helicopter for his upcoming role.

According to Comicbook.com, Reel Tours Hawaii captured a cool shot of a gigantic skeleton after flying over the Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures' 'Kong: Skull Island' set. The photographs of a giant red skull have been revealed through the company's Instagram account.

Another article by Comingsoon.net showed the rest of the new cast posing for the camera in front of what looked to be an old helicopter. It was captioned, "Are you ready!? I'm definitely getting a 1970's Vietnam vibe on this film. #Kong #SkullIsland #oahu #samueljackson" Samuel L. Jackson also posted an image of the same helicopter on his personal social media account claiming that he was learning to pilot it for his new role.

Jackson has been cast in a yet unnamed role for the upcoming sequel featuring the origins of Kong. The film's plot will center on a group of explorers lead by Tom Hiddleston who venture out to the mythical yet treacherous Skull Island in search of answers. Kong's fictional home was first introduced in the original film first released in 1933.

It was previously reported by Variety that the new film's setting will take place in a completely different time period. Hiddleston shut down rumors of a 1930's setting saying, "There's no movie director with a map. There's no out-of-work actress down on her luck. All of that stuff is respected; we're just trying to do something new with the myth because Kong is an icon of movies. I think he's someone people want to see again." He didn't confirm whether it will be set in the 1970's either as suggested by other sources.

'Kong: Skull Island' is a follow up to Peter Jackson's 'King Kong' reboot released in 2005. Its predecessor earned positive reviews from critics and gained $550 million in combined global sales against a $207 budget, according to Box Office Mojo.
