The highly anticipated premiere of DC's "Suicide Squad" might still be months away but the upcoming anti-hero movie, especially Jared Leto is already making rounds in the internet rumor mill. The Clown Prince of Crime is expected to have some big shoes to fill in not only in the film, but in the future films of the DC Universe as well. However, it is very uncertain how major will Leto's character be having in the movie.
There have been rumors that the plot is about the squad tracking down the Enchantress, suggesting that the Joker may not be the villain in the movie. If this is so, then the Clown Prince of Crime might be out of place in the main storyline.
Some think the Joker will join the squad but some also say this is most unlikely. The Suicide Squad is a group of patsies used by the government to execute missions that it should have complete deniability with. Amanda Waller controls each of them and in most story lines in the DC universe they are implanted with microchip bombs. This is not a type of thing the Jokers is going to be down with.
So if the Joker is not the target nor is he part of the squad, how does he fit in to the movie? While most people speculate that his role might be as short as the Harley Quinn origin in the movie, based on a report by Youth Health, Harley will be caught in a love triangle with DeadShot(Will Smith) and the Joker. It is rumored that she will be hell bent in breaking free from the joker. This could mean there is more of the Joker after Harley's flashback story.
BitBag notes the possibility that the Joker has a bigger role than what most people may expect. Everyone knows he is the best when it comes to manipulating people. If that is the case, then he might just as well be pulling all the strings in the Suicide Squad movie and have a bigger scope as a villain in the DC Cinematic Universe.
According to Movie Pilot, Charles Roven, the producer of most DC movie adaptations said in an interview that the Joker is a successful businessman as well as a maniac. Taking a look at the Joker's outfit though, there is a resemblance of someone from the Mexican Cartel. It is possible that in the DCU, the Joker is a big time crime boss and is indeed pulling the strings from behind the curtains.
The most interesting part perhaps is with how dedicated Leto was with his portrayal of the Joker. He said that he dived deep never broke character during the duration of filming. Even his co-stars claim they never got a chance to talk to Leto because he was the Joker 24/7.
Up to this point, every fan theory is a mere speculation until "Suicide Squad" goes out on August 5, 2016.
