'Doctor Who' Season 9 Episode 9 PREVIEW: 'Sleep No More'

By

"Doctor Who" Season 9 Episode 9, "Sleep No More," is set to be one of the most terrifying episodes yet. After managing the conflict with the Zygons on Earth, The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara (Jenna Coleman) return to outer space where their journey takes a frightening turn.

"Sleep No More" is said to be inspired by "found footage" horror films. This means that the story for the episode will be assembled through a footage discovered in the wreckage of Le Verrier Space Station.

The first promo trailer shows some sort of video log from a scientist who warns viewers, "You must not watch this. I'm warning you. You can never unsee it." Other clips show The Doctor and Clara running from an alien monster.

The second trailer of "Sleep No More" reveals that the people on the space station have been using a device called Morpheus that doesn't allow sleep for users. However, sleep is one of the most important needs of humans, and depriving them of sleep will have dire consequences. The Doctor exclaims that the professor has created an "abomination".

The title of the episode, "Sleep No More," clearly refers to the new device, but is also a reference to Shakepeare's "Macbeth". While the next episode is titled "Raven", referring to Edgar Allan Poe's poem. Both pieces have dark endings, as IBTimes writes, which could be a huge hint for the upcoming two-part story. As fans already know, this will be Clara's last season. But it is not yet known when she is leaving exactly. Will she "wake no more" in the upcoming episode or will she still make it to "The Raven's" final verse?

In addition, episode 3 was written by "Sherlock's" Mark Gatiss, which is exciting for fans of both series since this episode looks to be coming off as rather different than the previous ones viewers have seen so far.

Terrifying things are coming in "Doctor Who" Season 9 Episode 9, "Sleep No More." Catch it on BBC America, Saturday at 9pm.
