Furious 8 will be the beginning of a new trilogy to end the long running franchise. Actor Vin Diesel confirmed that it will be like the first film while Jordana Brewster hinted on her possible return as Mia Toretto.

Heart-stopping action is expected in the next instalment of the franchise, and as reported by Realty Today, Vin Diesel who plays as Dominic Toretto revealed that it will be just like the first film. Although Diesel did not specify the similarity that they are planning , co-star Michelle Rodriguez who plays the role of Lettie Ortiz revealed in a separate interview that it will delve back to the core of the franchise which is car racing.

According to Rodriguez, the idea came from the late actor and one of the franchise's leads, Paul Walker. "[Paul Walker] wanted to bring it back down to the core, which is the racing. He was always complaining about the special effects and the blue screens", Rodriguez said.

Aside from Diesel's previous confirmation about Furious 8 slated filming in New York, and the return to the core of the franchise, plot details are currently under wraps for the movie. However, as reported by International Business Times, it might feature the return of Jordana Brewster's Mia Toretto and Walker's Brian O'Conner.

While her return has not confirmed yet, Brewster said that it is not to be ruled out yet. Claims about her return further caused specualtions that Walker's Brian might return as well through flashbacks and will be created with the help of CGI.

Brian's flashbacks could be taken from previous installments of the franchise. However, sincie Cody Walker, Paul's brother, who helped finish his scenes in the previous film is not on board the next project, it could be a bit impossible to film new scenes even with CGI. Although, it is worth noting that these rumors have not been confirmed yet, thus, must be taken with a grain of salt.

As reported by Deadline, 'Straight Outta Compton' director F. Gary gray is officially on board to helm the next instalment, with which preproduction has already began. Production is set to begin in April. Vin Diesel is set to produce the upcoming flick along with Neal H. Moritz.

Aside fromm Rodriguez and Diesel, Dwayne Johnson is also set to return to reprise his role as Hobbs, along with Ludacris as Tej Parker, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, and Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw. It is set to hit theaters on April 14, 2017.
