Barely a week upon its pilot season's release in August, Netflix already announced that there will be a "Narcos" Season 2. The series which chronicles the rise and fall of Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar has been enjoying both commercial and critical successes with Season 1 getting an impressive 9/10 rating from Metacritic and 76% from Rotten Tomatoes.
However, despite the spectacular reception to the show, a son of the late drug lord has come out to express disappointment on how his father's story has been depicted in the Netflix series.
Juan Pablo Escobar sat down for an interview with a Brazilian TV show reports Ecumenical News. He revealed that very important details were left out in the series including how the US government aided Escobar in transporting cocaine into the US.
"First, they should include chapters showing how the [U.S.] Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) charged my dad 'taxes' so he could send cocaine to the U.S. territory via Miami International Airport," detailed Escobar.
Meanwhile, a NY Times article criticizes the show in using the point of view of a retired DEA agent Steve Murphy whose rendition of events is lacking in nuance and rich in cliches. Murphy and his partner Javier Pena are widely known as responsible for bringing down Pablo Escobar and dismantling the Medellin cartel.
Murphy, who is now a contracted consultant for "Narcos" Season 2, revealed that the producers are still very much shocked by the show's success. "The producers knew it was going to be a hit. But it's surpassed everyone's expectations. That's all they're talking about." explained Murphy.
There has been no official word on the "Narcos" Season 2 but speculations have it that it might be late summer or August 2016 to be more specific as this coincides with the previous programming schedule of Netflix. It also appears that next season will be focused on the manhunt for Escobar after his escape from prison.
