Fans of Casey and co. just got exciting news. Chicago Fire has been officially granted a fifth season renewal by NBC. The fireman drama, which hails from prolific producer Dick Wolf, stars Jesse Spencer, Monica Raymund and Taylor Kinney among others. Its fourth season currently airs every Tuesday at 10PM on NBC.
According to Variety, the early season five pickup of "Chicago Fire" comes after NBC’s season two renewal of freshman series, "Blindspot". The announcement was made by the network’s boss Bob Greenblatt at a Chicago press event on Monday.
The renewal of "Chicago Fire" no longer comes as a surprise, since the one hour drama’s ratings have been performing great this fall. In the coming days, the show will be joined by "Chicago Med" which is slated to debut on Tuesday, Nov. 17th.
Meanwhile, NBC has also renewed "Chicago PD" for a fourth season. However, the peacock network has yet to determine the future of other Dick Wolf-produced series: Law & Order: SVU and Chicago Med. The news was learned by The Hollywood Reporter.
In other Chicago Fire news, executive producer Matt Olmstead has addressed the future of Casey and Dawson – following the death of their baby on Tuesday’s episode. Olmstead confirms in a report from TV Line that the couple will not be broken up due to this latest development, citing that it’s only a “reset” for their relationship.
He also noted that Dawson and Casey will remain as a couple and the series have written other storylines for them that will “galvanize” them further as a couple.
“But this isn’t the beginning of the end for them because of what happened. It brings them together more closely,” he allowed.
On the heels of renewing Blindspot, NBC has also given Chicago Fire a new season pickup. Fans of the fireman drama may now look forward to another exciting year for Severide and co. In other news, exec producer Matt Olmstead shared some good news for Dawsey shippers.
